Park Rapids
Location: Minnesota
For your enjoyment—and ours—the Park Rapids Lake Area is open all winter long with lodging choices . Those spectacular trails of summer? They are of equal splendor when traversed via snowmobile and ATV, or under human power on cross country skis or snowshoes. Experience excellent cross country skiing in Minnesota’s winter paradise. Groomed trails include Soaring Eagle (12K plus a warming chalet), Shingobee Recreation Trail (also has a warming chalet), Hiram Trail and Itasca State Park’s 32 miles of trails. Rainbow Resort also grooms trails for guests.
HUGE ICE FISHING CONTEST
The place to be in February is on the ice at Fish Hook Lake for the American Legion Community Fishing Contest. The contest grows each year and offers one of the largest purses in Minnesota with over $110,000 in cash and prizes!
The event attracts more than 3,000 fishing enthusiasts of all ages with a full weekend of fun, starting with a dinner and dance Friday night, and continuing with an awards presentation Saturday afternoon and dinner and dance Saturday night. There is a medallion hunt, too, with over $1,000 in prizes.
SNOWMOBILING
The area’s trails are regarded by many as the state’s most spectacular for snowmobiling. Take advantage of hundreds of miles of groomed, inter-connected trails through Two Inlets State Forest, Paul Bunyan State Forest, Itasca State Park and the alternate trail along the Heartland Trail.
PARK RAPIDS HOLIDAY EVENTS
Park Rapids is resplendent for the holidays… and always profitable for six lucky shoppers. Each year beginning in November, shoppers receive entries for the business community’s annual “Jingle Bells” prize drawing. The winners (drawn just prior to Christmas, and who need not be present) share in a $10,000 cash drawing! Every year, the Friday after Thanksgiving features the annual Christmas Tree Lighting for Hospice Light up a Life, community caroling, a visit from Santa and Yuletide Sampler.
